I love Christmas.
I love Christmas.
I have no reason to hate it. And this year, I got the best gift EVER.
No, not an iPod. Not a Sony E-reader (Though I pleaded mom to get me one). Not even a make-your-own-CD kit.
What was my great gift, you ask?
It was this-
On Christmas morning, I ran downstairs, Mom sipping her Coffee, Dad eating his Hard boiled egg. I asked if I could open my presents. Mom nodded, so I ran in to see a brightly wrapped square under the tree. The other squares and rectangles were larger, but wrapped much more dully then this square. Just to be nice, I unwrapped the gifts from my aunts and uncles first-A Blue-and-White soccer ball from Aunt Clare and Uncle Tom (Mom's side), and a Chip-and-Dale hoodie from Aunt Susan and Uncle Spencer (Dad's side). Grandma and Grandpa Starr (Mom's side) got me a "Hot chocolate ♥ Marshmallows" Long-sleeve shirt. Grandma and Grandpa Roberts (Dad's side) got me an "ICarly" T-shirt and a pair of skinny jeans. After I neatly placed these gifts in a pile, I unwrapped the bright square. A note was taped to it, reading-
Dear our little Hummingbird,
We couldn't keep this from you any longer. You're 12, for heaven's love! Your father INSISTS I wait until you're 22. But you must know now. You're a shapeshifter. We knew it when you were born, but Dr. Rose told us to wait-too much of a shock for younger kids. So, I hope this gift will help you for you're future-shapeshifting needs. Don't get into trouble!

Mom & Dad
I stared at the note. "I'm a shapeshifter?" I asked myself. When no one answered, I sighed and unwrapped the gift. It was a brown, leather book, titled "Witchcraft and Shapeshifting" I opened to the first page, where there was a computer address-www.shapeshifter.org, written in blue pen.
And that's how I ended up sitting on my bed the day after Christmas, Wearing the skinny jeans, the "Hot chocolate ♥ Marshmallows" shirt, and white slippers with fuzzy pink clouds on them, reading the book at 9:00 P.M.
Oh, I almost forgot-My name's Kimberly Alice Roberts. K.A.T, Kim, or Kimmy for short.
My parents weren't home. No shock. They work at a 24-hour bookstore, only getting off on holidays.
So I was trying to figure out what a "Backboney Muscle" was, 'cuz they said that was the muscle I had to flex to become a Bengal tiger. I glanced out the window. Snow had fallen-now was my chance to make my four-foot-one-inch tall snowman. I even had a sketch of it-everything from the gray-and-blue tasseled hat on it's head, eyes with small hunks of coal for pupils, a carved mouth, carrot nose, fuzzy blue scarf, stick arms with baby blue gloves with the snowflake-shaped grippers...
I ruffled my taffy-colored hair. Some call it dirty-blond. I say it's taffy colored. Anyway, I ruffled it. It was to late to make a snowman. I was dozing off as it was. I sighed, closing the book. My Cinnamon-colored, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy waltzed in.
I giggled. "Cherry Blossom! What are you doing here?"
Cherry Blossom barked. I sighed. "Well, you'll stay in here. But go to sleep."
Without taking off my clothes, I turned out the light and fell asleep.
~*~*~*~*
At roughly 2:00 A.M, I felt something like a cold hurricane. It spun, faster and faster, colder and colder. I shivered, hearing Cherry Blossom whine. I found I couldn't open my eyes, so I fell asleep.
~*~*~*~*
I awoke to a gentle cold breeze. I groaned. "I musta left a window open" I murmured
I yawned and stretched. What had happened? I didn't know fully, but I was cold. I glanced down, finding out two things in one gasp-
One, I was standing.
And two, My body wasn't there. In it's place was...
I closed my eyes. "This is a dream, This is a dream." I murmured. I re-opened my eyes.
Nope. Not a dream. My body really was two large snowballs. My arms were really sticks with gloves.
"Oh my god. Oh my god. I'm a snowman. This is impossible. I'm a shapeshifter. I shapeshifted into a snowman." I said.
I tried a little test, seeing if I could move without feet. Nope, I couldn't. I kinda wiggled, but nothing else.
I tried to think of anything that could help me-but nothing came to mind. I sighed. I tried to stay still, just in case anyone was to walk by. It was hard, but I somehow managed.
I stared at the sidewalk, wondering how a real snowman ever lived through this, when I saw a girl walk by. She had green eyes and carrot-colored hair. She had a fake-fur coat on, and was holding a thermos, Which I saw to contain some instant ramen noodles. She had tan Uggs that matched her coat and was walking a Siamese cat on a small, pink harness. I wondered were I saw her before, then it hit me-she went to my school.
Could I trust her? Then again, what did I have to lose?
I inhaled, "Hello"
Her head darted around. "Who was that?"
"Me." to my relief, I could bend my stick-arms
She looked at me, confused. Her cat started hissing at me.
I inhaled again, and explained my story while she ate her ramen. Every now and then she nodded, and when I finished, she said, "Okay, then. I understand. I'm Vanessa Wormwood. You are?"
"Kimberly Roberts."
"I see. Per-fecto. Don't worry, I used to have powers. Time bender. Could alter time to my needs. I loved it, but I altered time once to many. Power Placement stripped me of the powers." Vanessa cringed, "Anyway, I'll help best I can. Wait here." She dashed off to the west.
My eyes darted around, looking at patterns on snowflakes, until she returned. She held a large wooden toboggan in place of her thermos. She chiseled it under me and pushed my back until I was on the middle of the toboggan.
"Figured you'd want to move around more." She explained.
"I did, thanks."
At that moment, Cherry Blossom ran out, yapping at Vanessa's cat. "Cherry blossom!" I called, but she didn't seem to reconise her snowman-master.
"Cinder!" Vanessa grabbed the cat and shooed the puppy back inside. She wimpered. "Your dog?"
"Yeah."
"Ah." She grabbed the black roping connected to the toboggan, towing me along. "Stay quiet. My mom'll freak if she hears you. Act natural."
I basically remained still until I heard Vanessa yell, "I'm gonna play with Daisy out back!"
No voice answered, so Vanessa shrugged and walked to her backyard.
I stared up at a giant castle made of ice. It looked rather large, and Vanessa towed me in.
On the west wall was another girl. Her hair was whiteish-blond, she had blue eyes, and freckles. Her furry coat was white, with matching snow pants and boots. She was toying around a purple-covered notebook and pink pen, then glanced up. "You brought a snowman?"
"If, by 'Snowman', you mean 'A-horribly-mistaken-shapeshifter' then-"
"Horribly mistaken?" I was confused
"I see. I'm Daisy, by the way. Daisy Rose Marigold. And you are?" Daisy opened the notebook, scribbled something, then closed it again.
"Kimberly Alice Roberts."
"Ah ha. Second or First degree?"
"What?"
"Daisy!" Vanessa snapped.
"Sorry. I'll assume you're a dream-shifter?"
"What's that?" I asked
Daisy sighed. "What happened before...this?" She motioned to my snowman-body.
I thought for a moment. "Reading. Looked outside. Looked at sketch of snowman. Cherry Blossom walked in. She's my CKC Spaniel. Anyway, went to sleep-"
"Cold hurricane, this." Daisy finished for me, "Yes, you're a dream-shifter. A shapeshifter who shifts forms in dreams. Now-" She pulled out a blue-covered book titled "Shapeshifters 101 for the 21st century" "We just have to figure out if you are a first degree or a second degree. If you're a first degree, our life will be simple. Second degree is harder."
Vanessa nodded. "Makes sense. So, course of action?"
"Kim here sleeps. Then we figure out if you're first degree or second."
"And if I'm stuck as a snowman?" I asked
"We learn that this is a horrible nightmare and run for a peach tree." Daisy stated.
"Yeah."
"Ah." She grabbed the black roping connected to the toboggan, towing me along. "Stay quiet. My mom'll freak if she hears you. Act natural."

"What good would a peach tree do?" Asked Vanessa
Daisy shrugged, "I dunno."
I giggled. Daisy handed me her notebook, flipped to the last page. "Here." She handed me the pen, "Draw anything."
I sighed and doodled a ballerina, with blond hair and a long pink dress. After drawing her ballet slippers, I set down the notebook and pen.
"And if you're still a snowman when I wake up, I'll scream." Daisy said, ruffling her hair.
I fell asleep, my mind laughing.
~*~*~*~*
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"
My eyes blinked open to a bloodcurling scream. I was sleepy, and it was still dark out. Daisy was scribbling madly in the notebook, and I noticed Vanessa was gone.
"WHY DIDN'T IT WORK???? IT SHOULD OF WORKED! THIS IS-oh." Daisy looked at me, just noticing I was awake, "Why are you up?"
"Kinda hard to sleep with the screaming." I explained
"Oh, yeah. Heh, heh. I said I would scream, and I did. I don't break promises."
I yawned. "What time is it?"
Daisy looked at a watch I hadn't noticed before. "Roughly 2:00 A.M."
"Why were you screaming at 2:00 A.M?"
"I woke up and saw. Like I said, I don't break promises."
"Oh." I murmured.
"To be honest, I thought you'd be something else now. That's why I freaked. But I think I might know why. Kidding. I don't know why." Daisy sighed.
I yawned again.
Daisy flipped pages in her notebook until she came to my drawing. "This looks familiar. The one I saw had-eureka!" She pounded a fist into her hand (If you were wondering, 'pounded a fist into her hand' means her right hand was balled in a fist and it slammed down lightly onto her left palm).
"I lost you." I said
"Don't you see? I just have to-" She picked up the pink pen and drew small pixie-like wings on her back and a star-tipped wand into her hand.
"I'm still lost." I murmured
"Don't you see? Maybe you can only shift into things you've seen before!"
I considered this. "Possible."
"Go back to sleep. We'll need to test this theory." Daisy yawned, dozing off.
I nodded, but insted of sleeping, I picked up her notebook. I opened to the first page. Magical mishaps for Miss Unlucky was written in bubble letters. I flipped the page.
Day 1-Vanessa's hunch
I met up with Vanessa Wormwood today. We haven't seen each other in forever. She has a hunch that someone got new powers today. I can't tell. Too much Christmas magic going around. Blocks me. Vanessa is POSITIVE she saw a light coming from 2081-but that house is deserted...right? Omigosh, maybe it's haunted.
Day 2-The snowman
Vanessa met me in the castle today. It's two days after she first got her hunch. She was towing around a snowman on her toboggan. At first I thought this was queer. Turns out the snowman's alive-her name's Kimberly, and she's a shapeshifter. As Vanessa would say, Per-fecto. Now I can test what I know.
Day 3-Have I possibly gone daffy?
I'm starting to think this 'Kimberly' is a dream. I tested what I know-She a dream-shifter, I found out, and the process would of worked by now. It's roughly 1:56 A.M. I'm hoping this all will be over with quickly...I don't have time for this!
After that, it was blank. I set it down again. She thought I could be a dream? I was alive...right? Great, now I wasn't sure.
I leaned my head on the icy wall. It was cold. Duh. I figured I should get to sleep, but I had too much on my mind. Was I alive? Or was I not? I glanced down and saw the notebook opened itself to a random page. It had a pink scribble of writing, which read-
Something's hidden behind a door, though I do not have the key
I say that we take a cannon, aim it at his door and then,
It's funny! I'm laughing! You really are too much.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
I didn't have a clue what that meant, but then I noticed the penmanship. Daisy had always dotted her 'i' with a small flower. The first line, the 'i' was dotted with a heart, the second line a star, and the third line a dot. Only the last line had Daisy's penmanship, even if it was in all caps. So someone else had written in Daisy"s notebook. Odd.
I yawned. Suddenly, the thought of me not being alive wasn't so big anymore. I had to decode the unfinished writing, if Daisy liked it or not.
My eyelids grew heavy, and I fell asleep.
~*~*~*~*
I felt the cold hurricane again. Hoo-rah. This time, however, it doesn't startle me. I kinda just let it pass.~*~*~*~*
Before I opened my eyelids, I tested my ROM-Range of motion.
I had legs, I soon found out. My ROM happened to be very good, so my eyelids opened. I was in a dollhouse. Whoop-de-doo. My teeth gritted.
I barely got up when Vanessa screamed.
"It's a-me!" I said, trying to sound cheerful.
"Oh. Yeah. Sorry. Still getting used to this. Heh heh."
My teeth gritted again. I glanced under the dollhouse bed. I was in a pink dress with ballet slippers on. Grrr. Under the bed, I saw only one thing-a key.
I hopped off the bed and grabbed the key. At the top was a carving-a cannon. A post-it was stuck to it, which read-
Found under the bridge near the river. I asked Daisy what she thought of it-she laughed. She admitted it was funny. But I'm positive it'll unlock SOMETHING-so I asked some girls in my class (Marissa, Ruby, and Belle, in that order) to confuse Daisy. It worked-she has 0% clue what we mean. YES!
I stared at the post-it. Key. Cannon. Laughing. It all made sense now. "Vanessa! Go get Daisy! And hurry!"
Vanessa gave a confused nod. She ran out of the room, still in her "Frosty the snowman" themed PJ's.
I hopped down from the dollhouse onto the floor. The key was still in my hands, and this might be my one last chance to be human. I exhaled sharply.
Vanessa came back, dragging Daisy by the arm. "Wha-the-what?" she said, startled.
"Drop the notebook! Hurry!" I screamed
Daisy obeyed and I grabbed a blue pen on the ground. Flipping pages, I found the text that baffled me in the night. I circled the words Key, cannon, and Laughing.
Daisy cocked her head in confusion.
My teeth gritted. If Daisy was gonna be ignorant, I'd do it myself.
I picked up the key. It was heavy, at least twice my size, but I touched the blade to where my heart would be.
A blinding light filled the room. I heard Daisy say quickly, "Ah! How could of I forgotten!"
~*~*~*~*
I landed on my bed. Human. The key was still in my hand, and Cherry Blossom was yapping.
Sure, I gave up my powers to Vanessa. And sure, Vanessa would remain a snowman. Forever. But hey, Daisy would too. And I'd still visit.
Maybe.
If I remembered.
I had turned the key into a neck-chain, which I wear now. And hey, Daisy could come back.
Maybe.
